Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, declared that the country will rebuild its nuclear facilities “with greater strength” following damage inflicted earlier this year. He emphasised that the nation does not seek a nuclear weapon, but intends its nuclear programme solely for civilian purposes, including healthcare and disease treatment.
The announcement came during his visit to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, where he met senior managers from Iran’s nuclear industry. He asserted: “Destroying buildings and factories will not create a problem for us, we will rebuild and with greater strength.” In June, the Donald Trump administration in the United States launched airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear sites, which Washington claimed were part of a weapons‐development effort. Iran denies any weaponisation and says its programme is peaceful.
While signalling renewed nuclear construction, Tehran also reiterated its commitment to non-weaponisation. The president said the “essential needs of the people” and “national welfare” drive their nuclear activities. The development raises geopolitical concerns, as regional tensions remain high and diplomatic efforts between Iran and the U.S. are at a critical juncture.
