Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ space exploration company, now accepts cryptocurrency payments for its commercial spaceflights thanks to a partnership with Shift4 Payments. Booking a trip on the New Shepard Rocket is as simple as making a crypto payment with major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ether and Solana, as well as stablecoins like USDT and USDC. Customers can securely pay using popular crypto wallets including Coinbase and MetaMask. A deposit of $150,000 must be made to book a flight.
The partnership is focused on addressing obstacles for travelers across the globe to book their trip to space while allowing customers to pay using the currency of their choice. Shift4 CEO Taylor Loberer mentioned that the partnership is an extension of their goal to simplify payments “beyond earth” while not creating obstacles for customers during the booking process. Interestingly, Justin Sun, the founder of Tron, recently flew on Blue Origin’s 34th flight after winning an auction with a bid of $28 million. The collaboration is another step in the merger of cutting-edge payment technology with the evolving industry of commercial space travel.
