With the launch of Vikram-32, India has taken a monumental step towards technological self-sufficiency. Vikram-32 is India’s first fully indigenous 32-bit microprocessor, developed by ISRO’s Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL) located in Chandigarh. Vikram-32 is a cutting-edge chip that can function in the most extreme conditions, ranging from -55°C to +125°C, with no issues, and serves perfectly well for satellites and launch vehicles.

For many years, the global semiconductor supply chain has been led by the United States, which has frequently used its control through sanctions and trade barriers. With Vikram-32 now come to fruition, India is signaling its drive to extricate itself from that dependency and protect its strategic goals. This is just the beginning. India is quickly assembling an entire semiconductor ecosystem to compete with the global titans in the industry and realize its ambition of becoming a technology superpower. The launch of Vikram-32 is more than just a scientific achievement. It is the dawn of self-sufficient India in the age of tech geopolitics.
